Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Writing slopes became popular in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries as portable desks for travellers and merchants. Designed to hold inkwells, pens, and correspondence paper, they allowed individuals to write while away from a formal study.

Nineteenth-century examples were typically constructed from solid timbers such as mahogany or walnut, frequently finished with decorative burr veneers, brass corner mounts, and inlaid geometric crossbanding.

Authentic pieces usually feature hand-cut dovetail joints, period-correct brass hardware, original lock mechanisms, and evidence of historic wear around the writing surface hinges and base edges.

An antique writing slope can be displayed closed on a sideboard, modern office desk, or bookshelf to add texture and historical character to contemporary interior schemes.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or veneer lifting. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically along the direction of the grain to nourish the timber.
