A Lovely 19th Century Italian Cream and Gilt Open Armchair of Large Size with 19th Century Needlepoint Upholstery.

This large scale armchair retains the original cream and gilt paint scheme and is in the restrained 18th century rococo style popular in Italy. Having a shaped head rail and outscrolling arms. The side seat rails are all serpentine giving the piece a sense of movement and fluidity. The legs are of graceful cabriole shape and there are leaf carved, and gilt, details throughout. The upholstery is not original but is of around the same date as the chair itself and retains its wonderful vibrant colours. The needlepoint consists entirely of floral motifs in various colours and different scales.

This is a highly decorative chair with great visual impact.
