FAQs

An Oxford armchair is a traditional form of wooden seating characterised by its curved top rail, distinctive arms, and supportive spindle construction, commonly associated with academic and institutional settings in Britain.

These chairs are typically constructed using native British hardwoods such as elm, beech, and ash, utilizing traditional turning and joinery techniques like pegging and wedged tenons.

Authenticity is identified through age-appropriate patination, hand-turned components, tool marks from historic manufacture, and the natural wear patterns characteristic of centuries of use.

This piece can be integrated into contemporary spaces as a functional desk chair, an accent seat in a living room, or positioned next to a bookcase to add historical warmth and tactile contrast.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the historic timber surface.
