Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hepplewhite revival furniture, popular during the Edwardian period, draws inspiration from the late 18th-century designs of George Hepplewhite. It is distinguished by graceful, light proportions, characteristic shield-shaped or heart-shaped chair backs, and intricate central splat carvings such as wheat sheaves, honeysuckle, or urn motifs.

These chairs were predominantly crafted from high-grade solid mahogany, favoured for its rich reddish-brown grain and durability. Construction relied on traditional mortise and tenon joinery, often paired with drop-in or stuffed seats upholstered in silk, damask, or needlepoint fabrics.

Look for crisp, hand-finished carving on the back splats, square tapered legs often reinforced with stretchers, and subtle timber oxidisation along the underside of the frames. Edwardian revival pieces generally exhibit refined 20th-century cabinetmaking techniques while retaining classic 18th-century neoclassical outlines.

A set of period mahogany dining chairs can be integrated into modern spaces by pairing them with a contemporary light timber table or minimalist stone surface to create visual contrast. Reupholstering the seat pads in a contemporary neutral linen or bold geometric fabric can instantly modernise their traditional aesthetic.

Keep mahogany chairs away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage and finish bleaching. Clean the wood periodically using a soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish along the grain, while vacuuming fabric upholstery gently with a brush attachment.
