Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Regency style, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1820 during the British regency period, is characterised by classical influences derived from ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt, often featuring bold brass inlay, sabre legs, and rich dark timbers such as mahogany.

Regency chairs were predominantly constructed from dense tropical hardwoods like mahogany or rosewood, frequently embellished with brass stringing, brass marquetry, or ormolu mounts, and joined using traditional mortise and tenon techniques.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails or pegs, natural oxidisation and wear consistent with age, hand-carved details, and genuine brass inlay rather than modern printed substitutes or synthetic adhesives.

These chairs can be integrated into contemporary dining spaces by pairing them with a minimalist glass or clean-lined wooden table to create a striking contrast between historical craftsmanship and modern simplicity.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and fluctuating heat sources, applying periodic microcrystalline wax for nourishment, and cleaning brass elements gently with a dry, soft cloth to avoid damaging the surrounding timber.
