Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Louis XV fauteuil is a French open-armed chair distinguished by its exposed wooden frame, serpentine curves, and cabriole legs. Designed for comfort and social gatherings, these chairs traditionally feature upholstered backrests, seats, and manchette arm pads.

Frames were typically crafted from hardwoods such as walnut, beech, or oak, often decorated with hand-carved floral motifs. Upholstery frequently utilised woven wool or silk tapestries, brocades, or velvet fixed with decorative brass studwork.

Authentic examples demonstrate hand-carved scrollwork, asymmetry characteristic of the Rococo movement, and pegged wood joinery. Examining the underside reveals traditional frame construction methods, hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, and natural age-related wear patterns.

These open-arm chairs serve as accent seating in formal living rooms, study spaces, or bedrooms. Pairing ornate French frames with contemporary minimalist elements or neutral backdrops creates a balanced design contrast.

Dust tapestry fabrics gently using a soft brush attachment on a low-suction vacuum, keeping the item out of direct sunlight to prevent colour fading. Wooden frames require occasional application of natural beeswax polish to protect the timber and maintain the patinated surface.
