The Chippendale style, popular during the mid-to-late 18th century, is characterised by elaborate carving, interlaced splat backs, and cabriole legs terminating in claw and ball feet, drawing influences from Gothic, Rococo, and Chinese designs.

Craftsmen typically used dense tropical hardwoods such as mahogany, employing mortice and tenon joints for structural integrity, hand-carved decorative elements, and traditionally stuffed upholstery secured with brass tacks.

Authentication involves examining the timber grain, tool marks, patination, and construction joinery such as hand-cut dovetails or pegs, alongside assessing the wear patterns consistent with age.

Positioning the chair as a standalone accent piece against a minimalist backdrop allows its intricate carved details and traditional craftsmanship to create a striking textural contrast in a modern room.

Maintain stable indoor humidity and temperature levels, keep the piece away from direct sunlight to prevent timber bleaching, and periodically feed the wood with appropriate microcrystalline wax while avoiding silicone-based polishes.
