Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1920s wall mirror exemplifies Art Deco style through its structured metal framing and geometric form. Fabricated from brass and glass with a lustrous gold finish, the piece incorporates hinged glass panels, a textured brass border, and an arched top profile. The brass construction shows gentle patination along the narrow borders and vertical hinges. Measuring 87 cm high by 72 cm wide with a depth of 3 cm, the wall-mounted fixture extends to a width of 142 cm when the mirrored doors are fully opened. Suitable for installation above a sideboard in a living room, hallway or bedroom, the folding design serves both decorative and functional purposes. The reflective surfaces offer multi-angle views while bringing light into interior spaces. This piece integrates well into various domestic settings, providing a practical accessory for grooming or dressing areas within the home.

FAQs

Popularised in the early 20th century, folding mirrors drew inspiration from French triptych designs used for travel or vanity dressing, characterised by hinged panels and arched tops typical of the interwar era.

These mirrors typically feature pressed or cast brass frames surrounding mirrored glass panels, held together with soldered metal hinges and often finished with mounting rings or chain loops.

Authentic period pieces display signs of age such as hand-soldered joints, natural oxidisation on the brass frame, and subtle foxing or silvering degradation on the original glass plate.

Position the mirror above a hallway console table or bedroom dressing cabinet to introduce warm metallic tones and geometric structure while enhancing light distribution across the room.

Clean the glass using a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water, while wiping the brass frame with a dry cloth to prevent liquid from affecting the natural aged patina.
