This late 19th-century Victorian side cabinet is constructed from walnut in a warm brown shade with a striking grain, good patina, and a traditional wax finish. The piece includes a shaped moulded top fitted with an open brass gallery rail above shaped sides, an original bevelled mirrored back, a glazed cabinet door, and a hinged lower door featuring an intricate carved foliate panel and original brass drop handles. Additional visible details comprise ornate carved bracket feet, decorative mouldings, and a brass-finished backplate. Standing at 117 cm high, 51 cm wide, and 43 cm deep, this functional storage item suits placement in a living room, hallway, or fireplace alcove for organising sheet music, magazines, or books. Inside, the cabinet provides designated storage sections alongside the main compartments accessible via the glazed and panelled doors. The combination of reflective mirror glass, structured timber framing, and decorative metal hardware gives the unit a traditional appearance suited to period and classic interior schemes. The compact footprint permits easy integration into smaller spaces while offering practical surface display space on the top tier.

A Victorian side cabinet is a compact wooden storage unit produced during the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901). These pieces were constructed for drawing rooms, dining rooms, or music rooms to store items such as sheet music, books, and household linens.

Victorian cabinets were primarily crafted from fine hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and rosewood. Construction details often featured brass galleries, hand-cut dovetail joints, bevelled glass panels, and mirror backs.

Authentic Victorian pieces feature hand-carved decorative motifs, natural age marks on internal timber, original brass fittings with light oxidisation, and traditional hand-applied finishes such as French polish.

A compact side cabinet functions well in a hallway, fireplace alcove, or living room space. It can be paired with modern lighting or contemporary artwork to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Dust the cabinet regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber, and keep the piece away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to avoid drying or fading.
