Tall French Walnut Side Cabinet

19th century
For Sale by Elmgarden
Description

Tall French Walnut Side Cabinet

This is a very attractive piece of furniture, the cabinet has a small drawer at the top with a between tier and a cupboard beneath, these are in an unusual wing shape with turned fluted columns and a dark pink marble top.

The cabinet is in good sound condition, it is fair to point out that there appears to be an old repair to the marble, this is almost unnoticeable as it is in a fissure of the marble grain

The Cabinet is 38” tall, 25” wide and 19” deep

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in France during the 18th and 19th centuries, the chevet was designed as a compact bedside piece intended to hold personal items and nocturnal necessities before modern indoor plumbing.

These cabinets were constructed using regional hardwoods such as walnut, oak, or fruitwood, frequently crowned with fitted marble tops to protect the wooden surface from liquid damage.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, original hand-turned column details, pegged timber joinery, and natural movement marks on the timber back panels.

These versatile storage pieces function as distinctive bedside tables, elegant lamp stands in a living room alcove, or compact entryway tables paired with contemporary wall art.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish annually, whilst cleaning the marble top using only pH-neutral soap to prevent chemical etching.
