Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Napoleon III side cabinet dates from the nineteenth century and comes in warm brown walnut and kingwood veneers with ormolu mounts and porcelain plaques. The breakfront facade holds three doors ornamented with inset floral porcelain plaques, decorative ormolu mounts at the corners, and intricate parquetry veneer work across the top and panels. The piece measures 106 cm high, 156 cm wide, and 39 cm deep, offering ample storage space for a dining room or living area. Buyers can place this French chateau style cabinet against a principal wall to display decorative items on top while keeping tableware or linens stored within.

FAQs

A 19th-century French parquetry credenza is a low, wide storage cabinet featuring geometric wood veneer patterns, produced primarily during the Napoleon III and Louis XVI Revival periods. These pieces often incorporate ornate decorative additions such as chased gilt-bronze mounts and inset porcelain plaques.

Craftsmen primarily utilised exotic hardwood veneers such as kingwood, tulipwood, and walnut arranged in chevron or diamond patterns. Accompanying decorative elements included cast and chased ormolu mounts alongside hand-painted Sevres-style porcelain plaques.

Authentic period cabinets display hand-cut joinery, thick wood veneers, and cast bronze mounts secured with early hand-cut screws. Stencilled numbers or stamped maker marks on the rear panels or timber framing also indicate original 19th-century manufacture.

Position the cabinet as a central focal point against a plain or painted wall in an entryway or dining area. Placing understated modern artwork or neutral ceramics above the unit balances the heavy detailing of the parquetry and bronze work.

Dust the timber surfaces using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish sparingly to maintain the wood finish. Clean gilt-bronze mounts with a dry, soft-bristled brush, avoiding water or abrasive chemical cleaners that damage surrounding veneers.
