We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian games box dates from circa 1875 in the gentleman's library style. The rectangular hinged box is constructed from warm brown burr walnut veneer with polished brass corner mounts and brass hardware on the lid, exterior corners, and keyhole escutcheon. Inside, the lid holds two ivory-coloured scoring boards against pleated blue silk backing, held with blue ribbon tabs. The lower section features a red-lined compartmented interior containing red and white circular gaming counters, circular dial registers in red and dark tones, and matched packs of playing cards alongside small round dials mounted on blue panels with peg markers. The box measures 9 cm high, 30 cm wide, and 19 cm deep. Placed on a coffee table in a modern home, it functions as a decorative accessory and a tabletop amusements holder.

A Victorian games compendium is a fitted wooden box manufactured during the mid-to-late nineteenth century to store popular parlour games, card decks, counters, and specialized scoring registers.

These boxes were typically constructed using fine timber veneers such as burr walnut, rosewood, or mahogany, complemented by brass mounts, escutcheons, and interiors lined with silk or velvet.

Authentic pieces feature period-appropriate brass hardware, natural burr walnut grain patterns, hand-fitted interior dividers, and original game components such as Bezique markers or cribbage boards.

An antique games box can be displayed in an open position on a coffee table, sideboard, or bookshelf to showcase the contrasting interior colors, brass fittings, and game accessories.

Store the box away from direct heat and sunlight to avoid veneer warping, wipe down surfaces with a soft microfibre cloth, and occasionally apply a natural beeswax polish to protect the timber.
