Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

This pair of Victorian bedside chests comes in a warm brown burr walnut veneer with four drawer tiers, turned wooden knobs, rounded corners, and plinth bases. Each tall chest stands on a solid foundation, showing the distinctive grain patterns of the walnut timber across every surface, complemented by small circular wooden handles on each drawer front and a slide mechanism near the top. Measuring 77 cm high, 43 cm wide, and 40 cm deep, these compact bedside cabinets fit neatly beside a bed in a master bedroom or guest room. They provide practical storage space for nighttime essentials while offering a traditional English country house aesthetic suitable for daily use in a period or contemporary interior.

FAQs

Victorian burr walnut furniture is characterised by the use of highly figured veneer taken from walnut tree burls, popular during the mid-to-late 19th century for its distinct swirling grain patterns.

These pieces typically feature solid timber carcases veneered in burr walnut, incorporating hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, turned wood handles, and solid plinth bases.

Authentic Victorian examples feature original hand-cut dovetail joinery, secondary timber drawer linings such as pine or oak, historical drawer locks, and natural surface patination.

A matching pair of tall walnut chests adds natural timber texture and classical proportions when paired alongside modern upholstered bedframes or neutral contemporary colour schemes.

Dust regularly with a dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish along the grain twice a year to maintain moisture and protect the wood veneer.
