This William IV tea caddy originates from the 19th century and is made from rosewood with a warm brown timber colour, mother-of-pearl inlay, and metal hardware. The rectangular body exhibits rich figuring, circular corner inlays, and stringing to the front, alongside a diamond-shaped escutcheon, drop ring handles on the sides, and a hinged stepped lid featuring carved gadrooned moulding and foliate motifs. Measuring 13 cm high, 20 cm wide, and 12 cm deep, the piece sits upon small bun feet. In a modern interior, the caddy is suitable for display on a sideboard top or a gentleman's library shelf. The interior contains compartments with removable wooden covers designed for tea storage.

Tea caddies were created during the 18th and 19th centuries to lock away valuable tea leaves, which were expensive imported commodities in Britain. During the William IV era, craftsmen frequently utilized exotic timber like rosewood paired with detailed mother-of-pearl inlays for decorative display in reception rooms.

William IV tea caddies were predominantly constructed from solid timber frames overlaid with rosewood or mahogany veneers. Decorative features frequently incorporated mother-of-pearl inlays, turned or cast side drop handles, and foil-lined interior compartments.

Authentic pieces feature period-correct joinery, such as hand-cut dovetail joints, original iron or brass lock plates, and natural age-related wear around the handles. Rosewood from this era exhibits a distinct dark grain, often embellished with floral mother-of-pearl or brass inlay detailing.

An antique tea caddy functions as a decorative object on a sideboard top, mantelpiece, or bookshelf. It adds warmth and historical texture when styled alongside modern ceramics, books, or framed artwork.

Keep the caddy away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent timber veneers from drying or lifting. Remove dust with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish sparingly to maintain the natural wood finish.
