This pair of nineteenth century Victorian parlour armchairs dates from the 19th Century and reflects the stylistic preferences of the era. Constructed from walnut and velvet, the frames show a dark brown finish paired with deep purple upholstery. The visible details comprise a button back design, cabriole legs, a carved crest rail, and openwork fretwork arms, alongside intricate scroll carvings along the rails and frames. Each chair measures 93 cm high, 66 cm wide, and 75 cm deep, providing comfortable seating proportions for a drawing room, formal sitting room, or traditional study. These chairs function effectively as accent seating paired by a fireplace or as individual statement pieces in a reception space.

Victorian parlour chairs were formal seating pieces designed for receiving guests in nineteenth-century drawing rooms or parlours. Typically crafted in pairs or sets, they feature decorative carved timber frames, buttoned upholstery, and exposed structural detailing such as cabriole legs.

These chairs were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, paired with traditional upholstery techniques. Internal construction featured hand-tied coil springs, horsehair padding, and button-tufted fabrics including velvet, silk damask, or woven wool.

Authentic Victorian walnut chairs feature rich dark timber with dense grain patterns, hand-carved floral or scroll motifs, and moulded frame borders. Inspection underneath often reveals original joinery, hand-carved frame marks, and traditional webbing or coil spring support systems.

Victorian chairs function well as statement accent pieces in contemporary living rooms, bedrooms, or hallways. Placing dramatic jewel-toned upholstery against neutral, minimalist backdrops creates a striking contrast between historical craftsmanship and modern design.

Keep timber frames clean using a soft microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to preserve the walnut finish. Vacuum velvet upholstery gently using a soft brush attachment and avoid placing the chairs in direct sunlight to prevent fabric fading.
