Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 18th-century Italian Rococo dressing table mirror is fashioned from giltwood, gesso, and glass in a rich gold finish. Originally a travelling reliquary, the structure incorporates an oval glass frame supported by two ornate carved scrolling uprights, resting upon a plinth base fitted with a single drawer. Elaborate decoration includes acanthus leaf scrollwork, rocaille mouldings, flowers, scrolling vines, and a small keyhole escutcheon on the drawer front. The mirror stands 68 cm high, 65 cm wide, and 35 cm deep. It serves well placed on top of a sideboard or chest of drawers in a bedroom or living area today.

FAQs

Italian Rococo table mirrors from the 18th century feature elaborate scrolling acanthus motifs, asymmetry, and relief carved gesso details finished with hand-applied gold leaf gilding.

These frames were constructed from carved softwood coated with gesso, a mixture of animal glue binder and chalk, before water gilding with gold leaf.

Authentic period pieces display hand-carved wood joinery, red or yellow bole undercoating visible beneath worn gold leaf, and mercury-amalgamated silvering on the glass.

Position the mirror atop a contemporary marble console, dark timber sideboard, or minimalist dressing table to establish a balanced focal point.

Dust gently using a soft, dry natural bristle brush, avoiding water or liquid chemical cleaners that dissolve water-gilded gesso bases.
