Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Jacobean style childs high chair dates from the 18th century, constructed from solid oak with a dark brown waxed finish. The tall upright back incorporates double carved scroll cresting panels with pendant drops, complemented by outward-curving arms and a fixed front safety bar. Turned supports connect the arms and frame legs, which terminate in round bun feet and support an integrated lower footrest below a square panel seat. The wood displays natural grain variations, visible restoration work, and warm patination accumulated through age and handling. Dimensions measure 102 cm high, 38 cm wide, and 46 cm deep. Suitable for domestic display or inclusion within a traditional period interior collection.

FAQs

A Derbyshire high chair is a regional English seating design derived from 17th-century joinery traditions, characterised by carved back crests, scrollwork, and elevated proportions designed for children.

These chairs were typically constructed using solid native oak assembled with mortise and tenon joinery, secured with wood pegs, and detailed with hand-turned stretchers and carved splats.

Authentic period pieces exhibit signs of hand-planing, pegged mortise joints rather than modern fasteners, natural smooth wear on footrests, and deep surface oxidisation in the grain.

Place the chair as a singular accent piece in a hallway, dining space, or bedroom nook to introduce historical depth and wood texture against neutral walls.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a thin layer of natural beeswax polish annually to protect the dark patina and nourish the timber.
