Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE VICTORIAN ERA:
Carved acanthus knees and ball-and-claw feet: late Victorian Georgian revival style.
Square raked rear legs on brass wheel casters: standard late 19th-century easy chair design.
Deeply padded tub back and scrolled arms: domestic lounge comfort introduced from the 1880s.
Darkened surface wax and soft wear to the front feet: long gentle domestic use.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This Victorian occasional tub chair is an upholstered seating piece designed in the English Country House style. The hardwood frame wears new upholstery in a cream and oatmeal sculptured fabric with a botanical pattern, paired with dark polished wooden cabriole legs and detailed claw-and-ball feet. The structure includes a high curved back, two overstuffed cushions, and rolled scroll arms at the front. The piece measures 97 cm high, 71 cm wide, and 71 cm deep. It stands strong and sturdy in good condition, bringing traditional character to a living room, bedroom, or reading corner. In contemporary interiors, this armchair serves well as a comfortable reading seat or a decorative accent in a study or dressing room. The soft tactile fabric provides a welcoming texture, while the carved wooden legs add classic detail. Its compact proportions make it suitable for smaller spaces as well as larger rooms, offering a practical seating option with nineteenth-century heritage. The neutral cream colour allows it to coordinate easily with various interior palettes and furnishing styles.

A 19th-century tub armchair features a curved backrest that integrates seamlessly into low, rounded arms, providing a compact and supportive seating profile.

Traditional construction relies on solid hardwood frames, jute webbing, steel coil springs, natural hair padding, and woven textile upholstery.

Authentic pieces feature hand-carved timber legs, mortise-and-tenon frame joinery, original metal castors, and period upholstery construction techniques.

Position the chair in a reading corner paired with a contemporary floor lamp and side table to create a balanced contrast between historic and modern elements.

Vacuum the fabric gently using a soft brush attachment, keep the chair away from direct heat or sunlight, and nourish exposed carved timber with natural beeswax.
