Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1910s:
Hand-wrapped wire loops securing the slats to the frame: traditional wirework metalworking technique.
Gothic pointed arches with trefoils and quatrefoils: classic decorative revival garden seating.
Swept arms formed with radiating wire rods: Regency fan pattern construction.
Thick coats of paint settled over pitted iron: decades of outdoor exposure.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This pair of garden chairs dates from 1910 and displays a Gothic Revival style executed in heavy quality wrought iron with a white painted finish. Each chair measures 91.5 cm high, 52 cm wide, and 65.5 cm deep, presenting rectangular backs with pointed tracery arches, trefoil motifs, and slatted wirework seats. The design includes swept arms with sunburst detail, strengthening stretchers, and scroll feet. The chairs suit placement in a sunlit conservatory or a garden setting, offering sturdy seating with no visible damage. The open wirework construction creates an airy aesthetic whilst maintaining structural robustness through the underframe stretchers. They provide an authentic period seating option for outdoor or bright indoor spaces.

Gothic Revival garden furniture incorporates architectural elements from medieval design, such as pointed arches, trefoil tracery, and intricate wirework or cast details adapted for outdoor metalwork during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Traditional metal garden chairs were constructed using wrought iron, cast iron, or bent wirework, often finished with protective paint layers to withstand exposure to outdoor elements.

Authentic iron garden seats feature heavy structural weight, visible hand welds or rivets, layered historical paint coats, and natural surface patination or oxidisation beneath the paint.

These chairs can be styled in a modern conservatory, sunroom, or garden terrace paired with natural stone pavers, lush greenery, or neutral outdoor textiles to complement the structural wirework.

To preserve iron garden furniture, maintain a sealed paint finish to prevent rust, address localised oxidisation with rust-inhibiting primer, and store pieces indoors or under cover during harsh winter weather.
