Description

A stunning and very impressive pair of large antique Regency style mahogany armchairs. They were made in England, we would date them to around the 1920’s.

They are of very generous proportions and are beautifully designed, the quality is outstanding. The solid mahogany frames have gorgeous carving and gold embellishment on the back rests. They sit on wide splayed sabre shaped legs with brass hairy paw feet caps, they have feather filled cushions.

We have had the frames beautifully polished, they have been re-upholstered in a cream cotton fabric. The condition is excellent for their age.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency style furniture emerged in Britain during the early 19th century, drawing heavy inspiration from classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian designs characterised by symmetrical proportions and restrained elegance.

These pieces typically utilised dense imported hardwoods like mahogany, often accented with brass inlay, carved scrollwork, and traditional joinery methods such as mortise and tenon.

Authenticity is determined by examining hand-cut timber joints, patination consistent with age, the density of the mahogany, and the presence of period-accurate brass castors or mounts.

They can be paired with contemporary minimalist elements to create a curated, eclectic aesthetic, allowing the historical craftsmanship to serve as a focal point in a contemporary room.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber fading, and treating the wood periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
