This pair of Edwardian corner cabinets dates from 1900 and exemplifies the English Country House style. Constructed from dark brown mahogany, the timber is enriched with intricate satinwood floral and urn marquetry inlay on the lower panels and a polished warm finish. Each tall unit rises on slender splayed bracket feet beneath a lower section with two solid wooden doors and a small drawer fitted with twin pale knobs. Above sits a pair of glazed display doors enclosed by moulded frames, the whole surmounted by an ornate broken swan neck pediment centred with a small finial. The display sections house multiple shelves visible through the glass panels. Measuring 197 cm high by 74 cm wide and 50.5 cm deep, these cabinets provide ample display and storage capacity. Suitable for domestic placement in a corner of a dining room, drawing room or hallway, these pieces serve practical functions for exhibiting tableware, ornaments or books while offering enclosed storage below. The combination of glazed upper compartments and decorated lower cupboards makes them versatile additions to traditional or transitional interior schemes. Each unit stands upright as a single tall focal point, bringing balance when arranged together or positioned individually within a room layout.

Edwardian corner cabinets, produced between 1901 and 1910, frequently revived 18th-century Chippendale, Hepplewhite, and Sheraton designs. They feature lighter proportions, refined timber veneers, glazed display uppers, and delicate marquetry inlays designed to utilize room corners.

These cabinets were predominantly constructed using mahogany framing and panels, embellished with satinwood, boxwood, or rosewood marquetry inlays, complemented by clear glass panes and brass hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit precise hand-cut joinery, thin timber veneers over solid frames, natural patination, and intricate neoclassical marquetry motifs such as urns, swags, and scrollwork.

Placing a corner cabinet in an underutilised room angle maximises floor space while introducing historic architectural interest. The display sections can showcase modern ceramics, glassware, or books to balance traditional and modern aesthetics.

Position the furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement and veneer lifting. Dust with a clean, soft cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish sparingly along the wood grain.
