Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This rectangular decorative box belongs to the Art Nouveau period, dating to circa 1910, and is attributed to S Theeman. The piece is constructed from dark bronze with amber glass panels and enamel, presenting a rich dark bronze and amber colour palette. Details comprise a distinct loop handle positioned centrally on the cover, leaded glass inserts, sinuous floral panels depicting colourful red, green, and blue flowers, and stylized botanical feet that elevate the vessel. Measuring 21.5 cm wide by 16.5 cm deep, the casket provides a compact receptacle for personal keepsakes. Today, the casket finds its home on a sideboard top, where it functions as a striking decorative accessory that introduces period character to an interior. The maximalist wonderland design aesthetic suits placement within a living room, hallway, or study as an eye-catching tabletop focal point. Its enclosed design keeps small items organized while displaying the detailed metalwork and stained glass within any domestic setting.

FAQs

Art Nouveau metalwork, popular from the late nineteenth to early twentieth century, features organic motifs, flowing lines, floral imagery, and the integration of complementary materials such as stained glass or enamel.

These caskets typically feature cast or forged bronze or brass frameworks that hold decorative leaded glass, slag glass, or enamelled panels, joined with precise metal mounts and corner supports.

Authentic pieces often exhibit genuine surface patination, hand-finished metal casting details, period-appropriate glass textures, and maker marks or studio stamps on the base or interior framework.

Place the casket as a focal decorative accent on a wooden sideboard, console table, or dressing table, pairing it with clean-lined surfaces to highlight its intricate craftsmanship.

Dust gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes that could damage the original patina or the glass panel solder joints.
