Maple and simulated maple graining were frequently utilised in nineteenth-century cabinet making to imitate more expensive exotic timbers, offering a decorative finish favoured by craftsmen of the period.

These pieces generally feature traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon frames, hand-turned legs, and hand-applied decorative finishes or faux graining over a solid timber base.

Authenticity is assessed through the examination of joinery techniques, tool marks, timber shrinkage, wear patterns on the feet, and the historical accuracy of the upholstery webbing and stuffing.

Pairing historical seating with a contemporary dining table creates a balanced contrast, adding texture, character, and traditional craftsmanship to a modern dining space.

Maintain antique wooden furniture by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to protect the polished surface.
