A George III tea caddy is a small, lidded storage box produced during the reign of King George III in Britain, specifically designed to store expensive loose-leaf tea securely under lock and key.

Cabinetmakers traditionally used dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, and satinwood, frequently embellished with decorative veneers, boxwood stringing, and cast brass handles or escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut dovetail joints, old secondary timbers like pine or oak on the interior partitions, and natural patination on the brass hardware.

An antique tea caddy can be styled effectively on a bookshelf, sideboard, or coffee table, adding rich wood tones and historic character to contemporary or traditional living spaces.

Preservation requires keeping the wood away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity, cleaning only with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the polished surface.
