FAQs

Georgian deed boxes were crafted during the 18th and early 19th centuries to securely store legal documents, land deeds, and valuable papers for households, solicitors, and estates.

These boxes typically feature a timber core covered in tooled leather, secured with brass studwork, and fitted with brass carrying handles and working iron locks.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut dovetail joints, period brass hardware, patinated leather, and hand-hammered brass tacks.

They can be stacked on a console table, used as functional storage on a bookshelf, or placed on a desk to introduce texture, warmth, and historical character.

Preserve the leather by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and occasionally treating it with microcrystalline wax to prevent drying and cracking.
