Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian armchairs typically feature substantial wooden frames, often crafted from mahogany or walnut, with curved silhouettes, deep button-tufting, and heavily sprung upholstery designed for comfort and formality.

These chairs were traditionally built using solid hardwood frames such as mahogany, ash, or beech, joined with mortise and tenon techniques. The internal stuffing relied on natural materials like horsehair, coir, and cotton wadding supported by hand-tied coil springs.

Authentic pieces can be identified through period-appropriate joinery, hand-carved wooden details, traditional stuffing materials, and hardware such as brass castors. Age-related patina on the timber and hand-forged screws or handmade nails also indicate authenticity.

Pairing a richly upholstered period armchair with contemporary or minimalist furnishings creates a striking focal point through historical contrast. It works particularly well as a reading seat in a study or as an accent piece in a neutral-toned living room.

Preservation involves keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the wood and textile from drying out. Regular gentle vacuuming with a soft brush attachment removes dust, while professional conservation cleaning is recommended for antique fabrics.
