Venetian mirrors originated on the island of Murano near Venice, Italy, during the Renaissance, where master artisans developed advanced glass-making techniques, including crystal-clear glass and intricate hand-engraving.

Authentic pieces feature silvered sheet glass mounted on a wooden backing, decorated with separately cut glass plates held in place by decorative glass or metal clips, and embellished with hand-etched floral and geometric motifs.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit signs of age such as foxing or oxidisation within the silvering, hand-cut bevelling with minor irregularities, and traditional wooden or metal support frames at the rear.

This piece works effectively as a statement focal point above a mantelpiece or console table, reflecting natural light and adding textural contrast to contemporary minimalist or maximalist spaces alike.

Clean the glass surface gently with a soft, lint-free cloth and mild, ammonia-free glass cleaner applied to the cloth rather than directly to the mirror, avoiding harsh chemicals that can damage the antique silver backing.
