Snuff boxes became highly fashionable across Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries as the consumption of powdered tobacco peaked among the elite classes.

Craftspeople utilised a wide variety of materials including precious metals, tortoiseshell, papier-mache, horn, and highly figured hardwoods such as burr walnut and maple.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-turned construction marks, natural age patination, historical wear patterns, and traditional joinery techniques appropriate to their era.

These small decorative objects work well displayed on a bookshelf, coffee table, or mantelpiece as a focal point of historical interest and tactile curiosity.

Keep wooden boxes away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, treating them occasionally with a microcrystalline wax to protect the historical finish.
