This Victorian table snuff box originates from Scotland during the nineteenth century, specifically between 1840 and 1860. The piece takes an oblong form constructed from solid amboyna wood, showcasing a mottled brown colour with a pronounced burr figure across the polished surfaces. The design incorporates curved sides, rounded edges, and a flush fitted lid secured by a well-made integral hinge. Visible details include a smooth high-gloss finish, natural timber grain variations, and subtle signs of age with a warm patination on the outer shell. Measuring 3.2 cm high, 13.3 cm wide, and 8.3 cm deep, this compact accessory sits easily on a surface. In a modern interior, this antique treen item serves as a decorative storage container for small trinkets. It functions well on an office desk, a library table, or a mantelpiece, bringing historical character to domestic spaces. The natural materials complement traditional and transitional room schemes alike, while the enclosed compartment offers practical utility for everyday organisation. Collectors of treen and nineteenth-century gentleman's accessories will find this piece a suitable addition to an established display of small wooden works.

A table snuff box is a decorative vessel designed to sit on a tabletop or desk, holding powdered tobacco for shared communal use during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Victorian treen snuff boxes were typically turned or carved from hardwoods such as amboyna, walnut, or sycamore, often featuring integral wooden hinges, metal linings, or tortoiseshell elements.

Authentic nineteenth-century treen features hand-fitted joints, subtle surface wear around touch points, natural wood patination, and often intricate wooden hinge mechanisms unique to period box makers.

A treen snuff box serves as a tactile object when displayed on an office desk, nested within a curated bookshelf arrangement, or placed atop a coffee table book stack.

Keep wooden and tortoiseshell objects away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent warping, dusting regularly with a soft dry microfibre cloth.
