FAQs

The William IV period spans from 1830 to 1837, acting as a transitional phase between Regency elegance and Victorian ornamentation, typically characterised by robust proportions and restrained classical ornamentation.

Craftsmen typically utilised dense exotic hardwoods such as rosewood and mahogany, frequently incorporating contrasting brass inlay, mother-of-pearl escutcheons, and velvet or leather internal linings.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate construction methods, such as hand-cut dovetail joints, old growth timber grain, hand-engraved brass components, and natural ageing rather than artificial distressing.

Such items function effectively as accent pieces when placed on console tables, desks, or mantelpieces, providing texture and historical contrast to minimalist modern surroundings.

Preserve the timber by avoiding direct sunlight and moisture, occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the grain without damaging the historic polish.
