This 18th-century Dutch painted vitrine cabinet exemplifies eighteenth-century regional design. Constructed from pine, the piece wears an off-white painted finish with soft distressing and patination across its surfaces. The upper section comprises an arched pediment with shaped cresting, framing three glass-fronted display compartments divided by wooden glazing bars. Inside, the shelves and backing reveal a pale green tone. Below the glazed display area, the lower storage cabinet features panelled doors flanked by canted side panels, all raised on shaped bracket feet. The vitrine measures 230 cm high, 142 cm wide, and 38 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this display cabinet suits placement in a dining room, living room, or hallway to store and showcase china, glassware, or decorative objects. The upper glass shelves offer visible storage while keeping contents protected from dust, and the lower cupboard provides concealed space for everyday items. The neutral off-white palette integrates easily into traditional and transitional interior schemes, while the tall, multi-section silhouette adds vertical presence to a corner or flat wall setting.

An 18th-century Dutch painted vitrine is a glazed display cabinet characterised by arched pediments, panelled lower doors, and painted finishes typical of Northern European cabinetmaking from the era.

These cabinets were constructed using timber frames with hand-carved mouldings, individual glass panes fitted within glazing bars, and distemper or oil paint finishes applied to both interior and exterior surfaces.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joinery, minor irregularities in the original hand-blown glass, period iron or brass fittings, and layered paint finishes showing historic wear around handles and edges.

Position the cabinet against a neutral or contrasting wall in a dining room or hall, utilizing the upper glass shelves to organise ceramic collections, glassware, or decorative objects.

Dust surfaces using a dry microfibre cloth, keep the timber away from direct heat sources to prevent cracking, and avoid moisture or abrasive chemical cleaning solutions.
