In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

Louis XVI style is characterised by a return to classical symmetry, straight lines, geometric forms, and restrained ornamentation influenced by Greco-Roman discoveries.

These mirrors typically feature a hand-carved wooden base, traditionally gessoed and layered with genuine gold leaf applied over a bole foundation.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hand-carved details with minor irregularities, aged mercury or silvered mirror plates with foxing, and old joinery construction at the back.

Mounting a giltwood mirror above a modern fireplace or a minimalist console table creates a striking contrast that highlights its historical craftsmanship.

Dust gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and avoid chemical cleaning agents or direct moisture to protect the delicate gold leaf finish.
