FAQs

Dutch marquetry developed significantly during the 17th century, driven by trade and access to exotic woods, featuring intricate floral and foliage designs.

These pieces typically utilized a carcase of native timber veneered with contrasting woods, bone, or horn, shaped and cut to form pictorial inlay patterns.

Authenticity is determined by hand-cut veneer irregularities, period-appropriate timber species, traditional hide glue use, and natural ageing of the wood.

Such historic objects serve as focal points on contemporary console tables, blending historical texture with minimalist modern surroundings.

Preservation requires stable relative humidity, avoidance of direct sunlight to prevent veneer fading, and occasional application of appropriate conservation wax.
