Description

A smart and very well made antique leather desk chair / armchair. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1930’s.

It is of superb quality, with gorgeous deep buttoned green leather upholstery. It stands on solid mahogany cabriole legs with acanthus leaf carving at the knees, terminating in claw and ball feet.

We have had the leather hand coloured and revived, there is some wear and crinkling on the front edge, with no rips or tears. The mahogany legs have also been re-polished. This is in good overall condition for its age, with a lovely patina.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Button-tufted upholstery gained significant popularity during the Victorian era, heavily utilised in gentlemens clubs and libraries to provide comfort, durability, and a formal aesthetic.

These chairs typically feature a solid hardwood frame, such as mahogany or walnut, upholstered in full-grain cattle hide and secured with traditional individual brass or bronze tacks.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural patina, hand-stitched detailing, traditional joinery methods in the wooden frame, and signs of wear consistent with age rather than artificial distressing.

Pair the chair with minimalist modern lighting and neutral walls to create a striking focal point that balances traditional craftsmanship with clean, contemporary lines.

Maintain antique leather by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying a specialist leather conditioner periodically to prevent drying, cracking, and loss of flexibility.
