The Louis XV style, often termed Rococo, is characterised by asymmetry, curved lines, cabriole legs, and elaborate floral carvings, marking a departure from the heavier, more geometric forms of earlier periods.

These frames were typically crafted from hardwoods such as beech or walnut, often featuring hand-carved details, gesso finishes, and traditionally stuffed upholstery utilising horsehair, springs, and high-grade textiles.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved joinery, traditional hand-tied upholstery techniques, age-related wear to the timber and finish, and often bear makers stamps or remnants of historical lining beneath the frame.

Pairing a highly ornamental piece with minimalist modern architecture, neutral colour palettes, or contrasting textures creates a sophisticated tension that highlights the craftsmanship of the antique.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming with a soft brush attachment to remove dust, protecting the textiles from direct sunlight to prevent fading, and avoiding harsh chemical cleaners on both the wood and fabric.
