Superbly hand-crafted from French walnut, this matching pair boasts outstanding color, rich warm tones, and a wonderful natural patina throughout.
The sculpted frames feature beautifully shaped serpentine top rails, centered by finely carved rocaille shell and scrolling acanthus crestings. The swept arm supports feature traditional padded armrests (manchettes) leading down to serpentine seat rails with carved central motifs, all raised on elegant cabriole legs terminating in scrolled whorl feet.
Both chairs are in great condition frame-wise, remaining strong, sturdy, and tight in the joints. They come upholstered in a classic, high-quality red patterned damask/jacquard fabric that complements the warm timber tones wonderfully. The upholstery remains in clean, highly presentable order, making this pair ready for immediate placement in a country manor house, town residence, or boutique interior setting.
Condition:
In excellent antique condition. The solid walnut frames retain a brilliant natural color and soft wax patina with only light, expected historical marks consistent with age. Joints are sound and tight. Upholstery is clean, fresh, and in good order throughout.
