Howard and Sons was a renowned 19th-century British cabinet maker and upholsterer famous for manufacturing high-quality, exceptionally comfortable easy chairs characterised by coiled spring construction and distinct proportions.

Authentic period armchairs typically feature sturdy hardwood frames, traditional horsehair stuffing, coiled steel spring systems, and turned walnut or mahogany legs fitted with brass castors.

Authentication relies on examining the makers stamps usually found on the castor wheels, handwritten numbers on the frame, traditional hand-tacked upholstery methods, and specific structural proportions associated with the maker.

This piece works well as a focal point in a living room or study, pairing effectively with neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and complementary patterned textiles to balance traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming with a soft brush attachment to remove dust, protecting the fabric from direct sunlight to prevent fading, and avoiding harsh chemical cleaning agents.
