This Victorian stationery and letter box is a nineteenth-century gentleman's library accessory in the Victorian style. The piece uses coromandel wood, brass, and ceramic materials, presenting a dark brown timber colour with a deep shine, original patina, and brass highlights. The box has a domed lid, decorative brass strapwork, decorative medallions, and an escutcheon, with embossed copper bosses on the front and lid. Measuring 16.5 cm high, 23 cm wide, and 12.5 cm deep, it sits upon an office desk to hold stationery or letters. Position this lidded box on a study desk or tabletop to store correspondence, notes, and writing paper within easy reach. The hinged lid lifts to open an original fitted interior, complete with a silk-lined lid and wooden divisions designed to organise papers neatly. The exterior showcases striking dark striped grain across the curved wooden surfaces, complemented by polished metal mounts and ornate roundel details fastened with small brass studs. This practical container suits traditional home offices, studies, or libraries, bringing period character and organised storage to a workspace.

A Victorian coromandel stationery box is a desktop accessory designed during the nineteenth century to store writing paper, envelopes, and postal implements, typically featuring decorative metalwork and a hinged lid.

These boxes were constructed from coromandel wooda hardwood native to India and Sri Lanka with striped grainand accented with brass strapwork, escutcheons, and decorative cabochons.

Authentic Victorian examples display hand-cut dovetail joinery, heavy cast brass hardware, period locks, and internal compartments lined in silk, velvet, or leather.

Position the box on an office desk, console table, or library bookshelf as a focal decorative object alongside contemporary desk accessories or neutral ceramics.

Keep the object away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood movement, dust regularly with a soft microfibre cloth, and apply microcrystalline wax sparingly to protect the polished wood finish.
