Victorian armchairs are characterised by robust construction, deep cushioning, and elaborate upholstery, often reflecting a blend of revival styles and comfort-focused engineering.

These pieces typically feature a hardwood frame made of mahogany, walnut, or beech, paired with traditional stuffing materials like horsehair, wool, and springs, finished with durable textiles.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the internal framing, hand-stitched webbing, traditional joinery methods, and the natural wear patterns on the timber and upholstery.

Pairing a traditional patterned armchair with minimalist modern furniture creates a balanced, layered aesthetic that highlights the piece as a focal point.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming with a soft brush attachment, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fabric fading, and consulting a professional textile restorer for deep cleaning.
