Miners snuff boxes were durable, pocket-sized containers typically fashioned from brass during the 18th and 19th centuries, often personalised with hand-engraved inscriptions for individual workers.

These boxes were predominantly cast or sheet-formed from brass, chosen for its durability, resistance to corrosion, and capacity to take crisp hand-engraving.

Authenticity is determined by evaluating the manufacturing technique, correct period typography, natural patination of the metal, and signs of genuine wear and handling.

This piece can be displayed as a small objet dart on a bookshelf, desk, or mantelpiece, adding a touch of historical character to contemporary spaces.

Preservation requires avoiding harsh chemical polishes; instead, gently dusting with a soft, dry cloth maintains the historical patina and protects the metal surface.
