Victorian furniture, spanning the 19th century during Queen Victorias reign, is characterised by a revival of historical motifs, heavy proportions, and meticulous craftsmanship, incorporating styles ranging from Gothic revival to Rococo revival.

Cabinet makers primarily utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and rosewood, often pairing the wooden frames with luxurious upholstery fabrics like velvet, damask, and horsehair stuffing.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting joinery techniques, such as hand-cut dovetails or mortise and tenon joints, looking for natural patina and oxidisation on the timber, and checking for period-appropriate upholstery methods like webbing and springs.

Integrating a period armchair into a contemporary space involves pairing its classic silhouette with minimalist surroundings or contrasting textures, allowing the historical piece to serve as a focal point.

Preservation requires keeping the item away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood cracking and fabric fading, alongside gentle dusting of the timber and professional cleaning for the vintage upholstery.
