FAQs

A music cabinet is a specialised piece of furniture developed in the Victorian era specifically for storing sheet music, scores, and musical accessories, often featuring internal shelves and a glazed door.

These cabinets were predominantly constructed using dense hardwoods such as walnut or mahogany, frequently accented with boxwood stringing, marquetry inlay, and brass hardware.

Authentication involves examining timber ageing, hand-cut dovetail joints, original glass characteristics, brass fittings, and construction techniques consistent with nineteenth-century cabinet making.

This piece functions effectively as a compact display unit or bookcase in a living room, study, or hallway, contrasting clean modern lines with rich historic wood tones.

Preservation requires keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying appropriate beeswax polish periodically, and maintaining stable indoor humidity levels.
