A George III tea caddy is a decorative storage container made during the reign of King George III (1760-1820), originally designed to store expensive loose leaf tea securely under lock and key.

Traditional tea caddies were crafted from fine timbers such as mahogany, satinwood, and rosewood, often embellished with veneers, inlay, brass hardware, and specialized decorative techniques like paper quilling or tortoiseshell.

Authentic pieces feature period-correct construction methods, hand-cut dovetails, original working locks with escutcheons, and aged patina on the interior foil linings and wooden surfaces.

An antique tea caddy serves as an exquisite decorative accent when placed on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or side table, adding texture, historic charm, and a focal point to contemporary spaces.

Preserve antique caddies by keeping them out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, and cleaning them gently with a dry, soft cloth without applying harsh chemical polishes.
