The Hepplewhite style, originating in 18th-century England under cabinetmaker George Hepplewhite, is characterised by lightweight elegance, contrasting veneers, shield-shaped chair backs, and tapered or fluted legs.

Georgian chairs were predominantly constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and oak, often featuring hand-carved details and traditional joinery like mortise and tenon.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate hand tool marks, dry timber patination, traditional joinery without modern metal screws, and signs of age-related wear such as oxidation on the underside.

Pairing antique Hepplewhite chairs with a contemporary minimalist dining table creates a striking juxtaposition that highlights their sculptural carved backs and historical craftsmanship.

Preserve antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, and apply occasional microcrystalline wax to nourish the timber without damaging the patina.
