This pair of eighteenth-century Georgian dining chairs originates from the Hepplewhite period around 1790 and consists of rich brown mahogany woodwork paired with cream leather upholstery. Each chair displays an open shield back containing upright carved splats, straight fluted front legs, out-swept back legs, and connecting H-stretchers. The cream leather seats exhibit neat rows of brass studding along the scalloped trim. These solid pieces stand 94 cm high with a seat height of 45 cm, measuring 53 cm in width and 43 cm in depth. Appropriate for use around a dining table or as occasional seating in any room of the house, these chairs combine traditional craftsmanship with practical utility. The dark timber grain complements the lighter hide upholstery while the sturdy stretcher base ensures everyday stability. Traditional structural lines and refined decorative elements make these dining chairs suitable for both period interiors and modern settings.

George III Hepplewhite furniture, popularised in the late 18th century by cabinetmaker George Hepplewhite, is characterised by light proportions, shield-back seating frames, and delicate carved detail such as wheat sheaves, urns, or decorative splats.

Authentic late 18th-century chairs were predominantly constructed from dense mahogany timber, featuring hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery, corner blocks for frame reinforcement, and hand-carved back splats.

Genuine period pieces feature subtle hand-planing marks, natural timber shrinkage along frame joints, hand-carved details with minor structural variances, and period-appropriate joinery rather than modern uniform fasteners.

These classical chairs integrate well with modern dining tables, serve as accent seating in a study or hallway, or work alongside neutral upholstery textures to bridge traditional and contemporary aesthetics.

Maintain mahogany timber by dusting regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and applying a beeswax polish annually, while keeping pieces away from direct heat sources and excessive sunlight to preserve the finish.
