Tunbridge Ware is a distinct type of wooden mosaic ornamentation, featuring finely detailed geometric or pictorial designs, which reached the height of its popularity in Victorian England.

Pieces are constructed using hundreds of tiny blocks of naturally coloured indigenous and exotic timbers, glued together to form a mosaic pattern before being sliced thinly and applied to the wooden carcase.

Authentic pieces typically feature intricate mosaic tesserae made from various woods without the use of artificial dye, often displaying characteristic geometric banding and a makers label on the interior.

This piece works well displayed on a desk, bookshelf, or side table, adding subtle texture, historical interest, and natural warmth to a contemporary interior scheme.

Keep the item out of direct sunlight and away from rapid humidity fluctuations, occasionally cleaning with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding liquid furniture polishes.
