Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Regency style, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1820 in Britain, is characterised by classical classical proportions, neoclassical motifs inspired by ancient Greece and Rome, and the use of dark exotic timbers like rosewood and mahogany.

Regency chairs were predominantly crafted from dense tropical hardwoods such as rosewood and mahogany, often featuring brass inlay, turned or reeded legs, and drop-in or upholstered seats covered in fine textiles like horsehair or damask.

Authentic pieces can be identified by traditional joinery methods, such as hand-cut tenons and pegs, the distinct grain and weight of solid rosewood or mahogany, hand-carved decorative elements, and signs of age such as oxidation and patina on the timber.

These chairs can be paired with a contemporary minimalist dining table to create a striking contrast, or integrated into a traditional dining room to add historical depth, rich texture, and classic elegance.

Preserve rosewood furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the wood from drying out or splitting. Dust regularly with a dry cloth and occasionally apply natural beeswax to nourish the timber.
