Spindle back chairs gained popularity during the 18th and 19th centuries, evolving from traditional Windsor and country furniture making traditions in rural workshops.

Traditional construction typically involved a combination of native hardwoods such as elm for the carved seat, ash or beech for the bentwood and spindles, and fruitwood or oak for the undercarriage.

Authenticity is identified through hand-turned components, traditional joinery such as wedge-tenon joints, hand-adzed solid timber seats, and natural patina consistent with age and use.

This seating can be integrated into contemporary dining spaces or used as a singular accent piece alongside minimalist furniture to introduce warmth and historical texture.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct heat sources, and occasionally treating the timber with traditional beeswax to nourish the wood.
