This Windsor Captain's Chair belongs to the Victorian Country style from around 1900. It is constructed from ash, elm, and beech with a warm brown timber colour and a polished wooden finish. The piece has a low horseshoe arm bow, a shaped saddle seat, and multiple turned spindles supporting the curved backrest, accompanied by an H-stretcher base with bulbous turned legs and simple feet. The chair is 82 cm high, 64 cm wide, and 63 cm deep. It functions as a comfortable armchair suitable for everyday seating around a rustic dining table or as a desk chair in a study.

A Windsor captains chair, often referenced as a smokers bow or tub chair, features a low curved horseshoe armrest supported by turned vertical spindles and a carved wooden seat.

Windsor chairs typically combine native hardwoods, utilising elm for the solid seat due to its cross-grained strength alongside ash or beech for bentwood components, legs, and turned spindles.

Authentic period examples demonstrate hand-shaped saddle seats, wedged tenon joints where the legs pass through the seat, and genuine surface patination along high-contact areas.

A wooden Windsor armchair operates as a accent seat paired with a contemporary desk, placed within a library corner, or arranged alongside country-style dining tables.

Clean timber surfaces with a soft dry cloth and apply beeswax periodically, ensuring the item remains positioned away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage.
