Fully Restored Antique George III Circa 1780 Brown Leather Chesterfield Armchair

18th century
Description

Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this exquisite original fully restored hand dyed brown leather Chesterfield library armchair from the George III era circa 1780

Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, it covers within the M25 only for the UK and local Europe only for international, if you would like an accurate quote please send me your postcode and I’ll provide you with the exact price.

A fantastic looking and well made piece, the chair has been fully restored to include having the leather washed back, its then been hand dyed six times, antiqued, sealed waxed down and polished, the end result is this one of a kind cigar brown colour

The chair is very rare, the rear legs are super sculptural and they have the early Georgian castors elongated castors which I love, they are so elegant

Any connoisseur of fine furniture will know exactly what this chair is as soon as they see it, it is a real statement piece to have in one’s home and considered piece's of art in its own right. Think of them as the Rembrandt of armchairs!

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Emerging during the late 18th century, George III leather armchairs feature classical proportions, solid hardwood frames, deep-buttoned leather upholstery, and brass stud trim.

Georgian armchairs typically incorporated solid hardwood frames, natural horsehair padding, hand-tied steel springs, and hand-finished hide leather secured with brass nailhead trim.

Authentic pieces display hand-carved frame joinery, original brass castors, natural patination on the hide leather, and evidence of historical hand-stitching along structural seams.

Position a leather armchair alongside clean-lined modern architecture, neutral textiles, and contemporary artwork to create a balanced focal point in a living room or study.

Dust the leather regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply specialised leather conditioner annually to prevent drying, and position the piece away from direct sunlight and radiators.
